Canberra Royal 2011 - In Pictures!
Lindy
Walker and Sarah Hooke (Left) had plenty to smile about with the Hooke's new
mare, Sandown Musical Note. At Canberra Royal this year, the mare won Best
Novice Galloway Hack, Champion Led Galloway Mare, Reserve Champion Led ANSA Mare
and 3 Firsts, including the Novice and Open Galloway Hack classes.
In spite of
all the drama leading up to Canberra Royal, with many people without
stables, the show lived up to its well-earned reputation of a great
show, even with good weather and lots of horses. The rings were packed
– all but a few classes filled to capacity.
We had a
wonderful show but it was sad for us that some of out team had to cancel
due to lack of stable allocation – namely the Evans and their three
horses, Emma and Gabi Hollows and their new Thoroughbred mare, Breezy
Street and Carlie Lind with her horse, Glencoe Double Take.
Sarah and Harriet Hooke were given stables at the last minute for their
two Galloways.
Many of the photos in the collage below were taken by Julie Wilson. |

Maureen, very proud of Keeley’s win. Maureen won her first
riding class when she was four years old and so did daughter Lindy
and granddaughter Keeley. Now Keeley has beaten them both by
winning her first Royal Show blue ribbon at five years. Keeley was
2nd in this class last year. |

Stallion class. |

which he won.
Royal was purchased by us
as a two-year old from Kolbeach Stud in 2009. He was broken-in
during August 2010, began his show training and won his first ridden
class at Singleton 1 month after being broken, won performances for
Royal Shows and this was his first Royal Show outing.
Not bad for a three year old!
His first foals are on the
ground,

Harriet Hooke is having a gap year after finishing her HSC, seen
here riding her galloway mare Sandown Matinee Idol in Open Galloway

Harriet paired with
Melissa Melton and won 4th in the pair of riders. |

Bronte Talbot on Marena Trade Winds (L), and Ellie Nichols on Marena
Outback (R) won a 3rd in Pair of Riders. |

Canberra Show was not all work for some, Sam Wells from Victoria,
Keeley and Luke Walker-Johnson enjoyed a ride on this very patient
Shetland pony. |

Karren and Bronte Talbot
competed at their first Royal Show, an experience that can phase the
best of us, but it just seemed to fire up their enthusiasm for more
of the same. Pictured here in the Parent and Child in which they
were placed fifth riding Marena Outback and Marena Trade Winds.

Glenmoore Highlights
It was a sad day at
Canberra Royal, and on Lindy’s birthday too, Highlights, who was almost 30 years
old, lay down for the last time.
We purchased
Highlights at Jan McDonald’s APSB Clearance Sale and she bred for us two
beautiful and successful mares, Marena Skylights, winner of 6
Royal Show Champions and Supreme Champions, and Marena Twilights, who has been
Champion or Reserve for 5 Royal Shows in a row to date.
We also used
Highlights to teach children to ride for a few years. Highlights is seen here
shortly before she passed on. She protectively followed her daughter Skylights’
foal to ensure its safety as it trotted around the yard amongst the other mares
and foals.
At right, Three Generations - Glenmore Highlights, Marena Skylights and colt
foal by Kolbeach Royal Print, Marena Royal Lights.
Good Luck to you all,
Maureen Walker
