Brett
Jones - Fresh
from Sydney Royal Brett Jones competed in the Annual King of the Ranges
Competition at Murrurundi recently.
The “King of the Ranges” Event was run
over 3 days in crisp autumn weather at Murrurundi with the final on 1st
May 2011. It is a great spectacle and lots of good fun in the
traditional Australian bushman’s way. This year there was 61
competitors.
Here are the details of the different
activities competitors have to face in the King of the Ranges:
Preliminary Events:
Packhorse - Pack a pack saddle (must use your riding horse as
packhorse) lead it around a course and unpack.
Horse Shoeing - Shoe a front and a back foot of a horse.
Stock Handling - Take three head of cattle around a course using
a dog.
Whip Cracking - Crack 10 targets (some while jumping), use a
sword and collect two rings and burst two balloons, all at a canter.
Bareback Obstacle Course.
Cross Country - 20 obstacles including logs, ditches, tyres,
gates, etc over 2 km (to be done in stock saddle.
The Top 10 Competitors then do a Brumby
Catch and a Buckjump - in their own stock saddle. Brett didn't
catch the brumby but Falcon put in a good effort. He rode time in the
buckjump section and ended up 4th Overall after going into the Finals in
7th place.
Brett won Best Presented (Falcon was
still shiny from Sydney Royal!).

Big congratulations
for an excellent effort by Brett who is one of the very keen riders at
our Allan Wallen Clinics. I was very busy at Sydney Royal trying to
convince him to go in the Gentleman Rider Class, but I guess he prefers
Buckjumping. |
