NEWSLETTER – AUTUMN, 2003
Hello everyone! At last we almost are on the Net. Our site will grow and change with new information all the time. Our Web Site Address is www.marenastud.com
Future plans include Profiles of riders, Champion horses, Stallions and broodmares. We will keep you up to date with developments, new ideas and changes at Marena Stud as well as Show results and future dates of training days and schools.
The big news, of course, is that Lindy is expecting a baby, we do not know if it is a girl or boy as Lindy wants to wait and find out the usual way by looking! The happy event will take place in June so riding at Sydney Royal this year looks problematic. However, she is still riding regularly and competed at St Ives Show on 23/3/03 and won among other awards:
v Champion Open Led Pony Champion Aust. Saddle Pony
v Reserve Champion Pony Hack
Supreme Led Thoroughbred,
v Sarah McMillan won Reserve Champion Rider under 12 yrs and 1st Show Hunter on Marena Sweet Kiss.
v Dana Anderson won Novice Lady Rider at her first ride in a Lady’s event.
v Bugsy Darlington won 1st place and Reserve Champion Show Hunter over 15hh on Marena Venture.
We are taking 13 horses to Sydney, accompanying us will be Brooke and Therese Higgins and Sue Lyons from Queensland, Kath Jones of Sydney and local pupils Bugsy Darlington, Jessie Castle, Rhiannon Lindley, Kier Ferrie, Dana Anderson, Sarah McMillan, Ben and Jody Mayton and tiny Ellie Nichols.
At Canberra Royal recently:-
Nell Evans of Bowral was competing for the first time at a Royal. She and her horse Thompsons Destiny won;--
1st -- Open Hunter under saddle 4th -- Pony Club Rider 8th -- ASH mare Hack 8th -- ASH Hack
Nell has been having training with us now for almost a year and we are very pleased with her progress she has made as a rider and the huge improvement in her horse.
Jody Maytom won her riding class 7 and under 9 years and was 4th in the ASP Mare n/e 13.2hh. Her brother Ben was 4th in the Boy Rider under 13 years.
Ben and Jody Maytom of Stroud continue to have great success both at Pony Club and Campdrafting but are making their presence felt in the riding and hacking classes at Shows as well. Neither one has been beaten in a riding class this year. Ben was Champion Boy Rider at Gresford Show, Walcha Show and Champion and Supreme Rider under 17 years at Maitland Show. Jody was Champion Girl rider at Maitland, Gresford and Walcha Shows.
Ben and Jody have attended our Three Day Schools for some time and began travelling from Stroud during the week for lessons with us just on 12 months ago. Congratulations to them for their excellent progress and the effort their parents are putting in to help them.
Schools and Training Days
Due to a late Easter and Sydney Show running late into April there will be no Three Day Schools during these School holidays. However, we will be able to hold our usual two Three Day Schools in July this year.
Two and One Day Schools are planned for the future. One will be for Ladies and another day of Training for Led Class Competition.
Watch for dates to be announced.
Horses for Sale
It is our aim to reduce the numbers of horses that need training whilst Lindy is having her family.
Our Clearance Sale continues, consisting of young ponies and galloways from yearlings to six year olds, mostly unbroken but some are broken and ready for training.
We have an excellent breaker available to work on the horses here if buyers wish their purchase to be broken in before they leave the Stud.
All you need to invest is a little time. Marena horses train very quickly and have an inherent good temperament.
The purchase of young stock provides the opportunity to buy a future Champion very reasonably.
Royal Show Horses For Sale
We are also offering three of our top show horses for sale. They are entered for Sydney Royal and may be viewed there. For details please contact Lindy or Maureen.
A recent E-mail confirms that our “Miss Swiss” Fran Huerlimann will be arriving on 26th May and will be staying with us for a month. Fran spent 12 months in Australia as an exchange student in 2001-2002. During that time she rode regularly at Marena Stud and learned to ride and train young horses as well as show riding -- Australian style. She competed at Agricultural Shows with us and had to go back home in May 2002. However, she flew back to Australia for one month and went to Brisbane Royal with us before going back home again where she has taken up a nursing course. We are all looking forward to seeing her again soon.
Due to our involvement at Sydney Royal, lessons will end on Saturday, 5/4/03 and will commence again on Tuesday 29/4/03 when school goes back.
Good luck to all the riders competing at Sydney Show and we hope all our pupils and their families have a Happy Easter.
Love & Best Wishes,
Maureen and Bruce Walker and Lindy Johnson
